ABOUT OUR COMPANY

Who We Are

We are a firefighter owned and operated biohazard mitigation company serving Austin and Central Texas. We specialize in cleanup and decontamination of properties after traumatic events including suicide, violent crime, and unattended death. Our goal is to restore homes and businesses to a safe and habitable condition so that our clients can focus on what matters most during difficult times.

Why We Started SceneSafe

As firefighters, our core mission is to protect lives and property from a broad range of threats including fires, medical emergencies, roadway accidents, hazardous materials incidents, and severe weather. As a result, we’ve often seen firsthand the devastating impact that a death, violent crime, or other emergency can have on family, friends, and employers.

What surprises many people is that once emergency responders leave, cleanup of the scene becomes the responsibility of the home or property owner. The scope of this cleanup can be substantial, often involving blood, bodily fluids, and other potentially infectious materials. For families trying to navigate complex legal and emotional matters, figuring out where to start can feel overwhelming.

That’s why we started SceneSafe—to act as the ‘second responders’ who step in once the first responders have left. We take pride in our ability to restore homes and businesses to a safe, habitable condition, allowing for a sense of normalcy to return to our clients' lives so they can focus on other pressing concerns. Our top priority is to ensure the safety of our clients, their families, and our technicians throughout every step of the remediation process.

What is Biohazard Mitigation?

Biohazard mitigation is the process of cleaning and restoring an area that has been contaminated with hazardous or infectious materials due to a traumatic event such as a crime, suicide, or medical emergency. Because these situations can leave the affected area contaminated with blood, bodily fluids, and other potentially infectious materials posing serious health risks, standard cleaning practices are inadequate and potentially unsafe.

Biohazard and crime scene mitigation involves the use of specialized equipment and techniques to remove contaminants, clean and sanitize affected surfaces, eliminate odors, and properly dispose of infectious waste. The goal is to prevent further property damage and restore the area to a safe, habitable condition while protecting the privacy and dignity of those involved. This process requires trained professionals who adhere to strict safety protocols and follow OSHA standards to minimize the health risks associated with exposure to infectious materials.

What to Look For in a Mitigation Company

When looking for a biohazard and crime scene mitigation company, customers should prioritize companies that offer professional, discreet services in a timely and efficient manner. It's essential that companies are insured and have the necessary training to work safely and responsibly. Additionally, service providers should have extensive experience working in hazardous environments and should follow OSHA standards related to bloodborne pathogens, handling of infectious materials, and personal protective equipment (PPE). Finally, customers should expect transparent pricing, clear communication, and responsive customer service to ensure they have the information and support they need throughout the mitigation process.

Our Qualifiers

Regardless of the mitigation company you choose, you should accept nothing less than exemplary service. When hiring SceneSafe BioDecon, you can expect the following:

  • Professionalism. We are insured and OSHA-compliant.

  • Experience. With over 30 years of combined experience as first responders, we are accustomed to operating in hazardous environments that demand high levels of proficiency, safety, and critical thinking.

  • Respect. We will be respectful of your time, your property, and your trust. We offer a no-obligation assessment at zero cost, and we provide a detailed breakdown of our fees for your review. We will explain the necessary scope of the work in detail and provide you with timely updates on our progress.

  • Discretion. We will arrive in plain, unmarked vehicles and safeguard your privacy. We don’t display our company logo on our vehicles, because while there’s a time and place for advertising, it’s not outside your home or business. And we won’t discuss our work with neighbors, bystanders, or the media unless you specifically direct us to do so.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • The costs of biohazard cleanup can vary significantly. Factors such as the size of the affected area, the type of contaminants involved, and the equipment and personnel needed for remediation all play a role in determining the final cost.

Without assessing the situation in person, it is difficult to provide an accurate estimate of the projected costs. Therefore, we offer a free, no-obligation assessment to ensure that we can meet your specific needs and provide you with accurate pricing.

  • Biohazard remediation is frequently covered by homeowner’s insurance. Generally, the insured party is responsible for paying a deductible, and the insurance company covers the remaining cost.

We will provide all the documentation necessary to file a claim with your carrier, and we can assist you in preparing your claim for submission.

  • This can vary considerably depending on the nature and scope of the job. For example, cleanup of a single room with relatively limited contamination might take one day, whereas a multiple-room cleanup with extensive damage could take several days.

To help you make the best choice for your needs, our free, no-obligation assessment will include our best guess as to how long the work will take.

  • The short answer: as quickly as possible. As a small company, our availability may be affected by current jobs in progress or our regular shift schedule (we’re still full-time firefighters), but we will communicate any expected delays so that you can make the best choice for your mitigation needs.

  • Though our primary service area is Austin and surrounding communities, we are open to serving clients who live farther out. Please note that in addition to operating SceneSafe BioDecon, we are all full-time firefighters, which can pose some limits to our availability. Please contact us to discuss your mitigation needs.

  • We understand that your time is valuable, and we will make every effort to return phone calls and emails within a few hours. Please note that as first responders, we work 24-hour shifts, which may delay our response, but we will contact you as soon as possible.
